The Tom Brady-owned club parted ways with Rooney after just 13 weeks due to a series of poor results that saw the club collecting just 10 points in the Championship from the available 45. When Rooney took charge, Birmingham City were occupying a play-offs spot but by the time he left, they had fallen down to the 20th position, six points above the relegation zone.

Now, according to the , the Blues have prepared a shortlist of two managers who could replace the former Manchester United star at the helm. They have narrowed down the manager search to former Sunderland boss Tony Mowbray, who left The Black Cats in December, and ex-Stoke City manager Gary Rowett.
